Lalon Saha

 




Lalon Saha is a Bengali poet, Composer and Boul Saint. He is known as Lalon Fakir, Lalon Saint, Mahatma Lalon in Bangladesh. From childhood he was under a Muslim Fakir (Saint ) Siraj Sanyi. Siraj Sanyi rescued Lalon Saha when he fall into a fox disease in a journey the place of pilgrimage. After returning he was refused by his wife. Poor Lalon Saha returned to his Guru Siraj Saini. After the death of his Guru Lalon established hia Akhda at cheunriya on the bank of Kaliganga. And he was stayed there till the death. Lalon had no institutional education. But By his devotion he gathered lots of knowledge on the religious of Muslims and hindus. He composed about two thousand devotional songs in simple language in Bengali . His songs were very rich in mystic. These significant and impressive songs used to sing by himself. He developed a Boul community consisting of his disciples like Kangal Harinath Majumder, Pagla Kanai, Dudu Saha etc. the main theme of his song was “truth”. At that time Lalons songs were very popular to the mass. In bangle folk-song the Lalon song was very strong in meaning and sensible. Rabindranath also gave an explanation of lalons religion philosophy. Lalon Saha has died 1st Kartik in Bengali Calendar. In English Calendar  it was 17th October 1890 at the age of 116 in his Akhda in Cheunriya. Every year In his Akhda lots of visitors come to see his grave and his tradition. In his Akhda always stay some of his followrs. They practice the Lalon Giti infront of visitors till now.
