  Naming of Sundarbans The word “Sundarban” is a Bengali word. English translation of this word is beautiful forest. The cause of this name is may be for its popular tree “ Sundori”. It has been declared as 52nd world heritage site in 1997 by UNESCO. History of the Sundarbans         The area is traced may be 200-300AD.
